During Assistant Principals Week, we celebrate the life and career of longtime AP Walter V. Genuario of Mount Vernon Elementary School in Newark, New Jersey.
Despite his unexpected death last December, he lives on in the hearts of all whose lives he touched for many years.
Walter was a career assistant principal who knew how much he had to offer kids and gave them all he had. Though many try to avoid lunch duty, the lunchroom was his favorite place to be, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, when children had so much pent-up energy and craved attention, support and a sense of belonging. He often said that this was the place where he could make the biggest difference.
